Coulthard and Chadwick make up Team GB for RoC 2022 in Sweden next month

Ex-Formula 1 driver David Coulthard and two-time W Series champion Jamie Chadwick will represent Team GB in the Race of Champions taking place on February 5th and 6th in Pite Havsbad, Sweden.

Coulthard, the 13-time Grand Prix winner, is no stranger to the Race of Champions, having competed in the event on multiple occasions since his debut in 2004.

The former Williams, McLaren and Red Bull Formula One driver is looking forward to the event and hopes to add to his winning tally at this year’s event.

This year the event is known as the ROC Snow + Ice World FINAL.

“The Race Of Champions is an event I always enjoy attending, but racing on snow and ice this year will be a very different experience than the stadium tracks,” said Coulthard.

“I’ve raced on ice with AMG Mercedes in Sweden in the past but it will be a challenge to beat the Nordic drivers in their element.”

Coulthard will be joined in the Team GB line-up by two-time W-Series Champion and Williams development driver Chadwick, who will be making her Race of Champions debut, and looks forward to taking part.

“I’m really looking forward to my Race Of Champions debut in Sweden. It’s an event I’ve always loved to watch, so I can’t wait to experience it for the first time.” Chadwick added.

“It will be an honor to represent Britain with an icon like David Coulthard.”

Chadwick and Coulthard are just the latest in a long list of drivers to be announced as part of the 2022 Race of Champions line-up. Other drivers include four-time Formula One champion Sebastian Vettel, seven-time NASCAR champion and IndyCar driver Jimmie Johnson and Alfa Romeo F1 team driver Valtteri Bottas.

In over 30 years, only one other female racer has competed in major ROC events.

“That was Susie Wolff in 2014,” recalled ROC President Fredrik Johnsson.

“Susie has teamed up with DC [David Coulthard] to finish second in the ROC Nation’s Cup at that event. ROC is designed as a “level playing field”.

“I founded Race Of Champions alongside the most successful female driver in the world, Michele Mouton, who proved that women can win against men at the highest level. We look forward to seeing more women at the highest level of motorsport as racing becomes more accessible.

“The ROC Nations Cup was introduced in 1999.

“It was a bit of an experiment at the time, but this team competition concept quickly became a huge success and really underscores the intense but kindhearted rivalries and camaraderie that ROC is known for.”

For all participating drivers, the Race of Champions is a very special event that the organizers did not miss.

Johnsson added: “We took a risk coming to the Arctic Circle, but the international community of participants expects something very special from ROC every year. Despite the remote venue and the ongoing challenges posed by COVID, rider participation was once again exceptional this year.

“Sweden will give ROC fans the opportunity to see their favorite riders in the harsh and unpredictable conditions of ice and snow.”
