BEIJING, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) — Here are the latest Chinese sports headlines over the past week:

1. China claimed silver at Women’s Basketball World Cup

China pocketed the silver after losing to the United States 83-61 in the final of the FIBA ​​Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022.

Despite the defeat, the Chinese team has already tied its best record at the quadrennial tournament. It also finished runner-up at the formerly known FIBA ​​World Championship for Women in 1994.

Earlier this week, China cruised past Puerto Rico and Belgium and advanced to the top-eight on a group phase record of four wins and one loss. Australia’s National Basketball League announced on Tuesday that Chinese center Zhou Qi has returned to the NBL for another season with South East Melbourne Phoenix.

China’s women’s volleyball team defeated their first four group opponents in Pool D without losing a set at FIVB Women’s World Championship 2022 held in Poland and Netherlands.

The Chinese team beat Argentina 3-0 in the tournament opener last Sunday to start the winning streak. The team led by outside hitter Li Yingying continued to beat Colombia, Japan and the Czech Republic with 3-0, respectively and led Pool D with four wins.

2022 ITTF World Team Championships Finals kicked off in Chengdu, China on September 30.
