Aston Martin announced plans to reorganize its engineering department on Thursday and announced that it would hire a technical director who will work under Chief Technical Officer Andrew Green.
The move came as part of the team’s continued growth and recruiting efforts since renaming from Racing Point to fight for the world championship in five years.
But before the team could make an announcement about its new technical director, Red Bull issued a statement on Friday announcing that the Fallows head of aerodynamics would move to Aston Martin to fill the role at the end of his contract .
Fallows has been with Red Bull since 2006 and has been involved in all of his race wins and world titles in F1.
Red Bull team boss Christian Horner praised Fallows’ contribution to the team, but revealed that due to his contractual situation he would not move to Aston Martin “in the next few years”.
Aston Martin F1 boss Otmar Szafnauer noted in the FIA press conference on Friday that the team was “supported by Red Bull” by announcing the departure of Fallows.
“We announced the restructuring yesterday and wanted to announce Dan in due course, but we don’t control what Red Bull is doing,” said Szafnauer.
“I am grateful that you announced Dan. He is a great addition to our team. He’s a like-minded person, he’s a top performer, he’s won world championships, he knows Seb [Vettel].
“So we’re looking forward to Dan joining.”
Regarding Horner’s comment that Fallows would only join in a few years, Szafnauer said: “The start time, we are still working on it.”

Fallows will be part of a three-man team reporting directly to Green, working with Performance Director Tom McCullough and Alfa Romeo Chief Designer Luca Furbatto, who will become Aston Martin’s Engineering Director ahead of the 2022 season.
Szafnauer had no concerns about waiting to secure fallows, saying the deal was “100% signed, sealed, delivered” and that it was “just a matter of timing.”
“This is a marathon, not a sprint,” said Szafnauer.
“I think the most important thing is that we get the right people. You’d rather have the right people on your team than find someone quickly, but it doesn’t work.
“So the process is to identify like-minded people with high levels of performance and include them on the team. If we have to wait a bit, that’s the process. “
