AlphaTauri is one of several teams not yet to confirm their driver line-up for 2022, but Franz Tost says he wants to keep the current pairing Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda for next season.
Gasly has consistently scored with a podium finish in Azerbaijan this season and the Frenchman is a hot trait in F1 after his maiden win at Monza last year. Regarding Tsunoda, Tost said he expects a strong second half of 2022 for the Japanese rookie – and that is why he wants to keep him on board.

“Personally, I hope that we can continue with these two drivers because Pierre is a fantastic driver – very fast, very experienced, he fits in very well with the team – and I want to keep Yuki too, because we have undergone further training.” Jahr and I expect a very strong second half of the season from him, ”he said.

Tsunoda made mistakes, including a recent crash in first practice session at Hungaroring and what he called a “big mistake” at Imola – but Tost backed the rookie and said the 20-year-old was well prepared for next season.
“I also have to say that he’s been doing a good job so far because you mustn’t forget that he’s new, he’s a rookie,” said Tost.

“Of course he makes a little mistake sometimes, but he’s fine [place] and if he continues like this, then we will see a very strong second half of the season and then be prepared for next year – so I hope that he will be with Scuderia Alphatauri ”, concluded the team boss.
AlphaTauri took double points in Hungary and finished sixth in the championship, 20 points ahead of Aston Martin.
