Alfa Romeo's F1 team receives a state-of-the-art AVDS racing simulator

Thanks to automotive supplier AB Dynamics, the Alfa Romeo F1 team now has a new state-of-the-art Advanced Vehicle Driving Simulator (aVDS) that can be used for both racing car development and performance optimization.

The aVDS was selected by the team after a careful analysis of all other available systems.

One of their main requirements was to minimize latency in the visual environment and in the motion system.

“Due to the unique motion platform concept, the aVDS offers an incredibly low latency and consistency of response. This makes it ideal for use in elite motorsport, where the smallest changes can make the difference between success or failure, ”said Dr. Adrian Simms, CEO of AB Dynamics. “We are very excited to be able to supply Alfa Romeo Racing and look forward to helping the team succeed.”

The strengths of the system include the precisely timed acoustic, visual, vestibular and haptic cues that help the driver to fully immerse himself in the test environment.

In the meantime, Alfa Romeo Racing driver Antonio Giovinazzi had this to say about the new team: “The aVDS offers the realism and functionality that best suits the needs of the team. While driving the AVDS, changes were made to the vehicle setup parameters that were smaller than those normally made on the real car. The aVDS was able to accurately represent the effects of these changes on the real car. “

On the way to the Grand Prix of Great Britain this weekend at Silverstone, Alfa Romeo is currently in sixth place in the constructors’ championship, 10 points behind Renault and 3 points ahead of Racing Point.
