Alfa Romeo sets the launch date for the F1 car in Warsaw in 2021

Alfa Romeo sets launch date for 2021 F1 car in Warsaw event

Alfa Romeo will unveil its new car, called the C41, on February 22nd at an event in the Polish capital, which is an important base for title sponsor Orlen.

The team said it would release more details on “the exact time and place of the reveal closer to the date”.

It is the first fixed date for an F1 car start this year. Numerous events are planned in the run-up to the pre-season tests in Bahrain on March 12th.

The delayed start of the season will take place on March 28th in Bahrain and marks the beginning of a planned season with 23 races for the F1.

Ferrari has teased a unveiling of its new car, the SF21, in the run-up to pre-season testing, and Aston Martin is also expected to unveil its first model since taking over the Racing Point project in March.

The renamed Alpine team will showcase their A521 car at an event in February, but have not yet set an exact date.

The naming of the Alfa Romeo C41 would appear out of order as the team drove a C39 in 2020, but it follows a similar design approach to that of the engine supplier Ferrari.

Since work on the planned car would have started for 2021 before it was decided to postpone the new technical regulations for a year after the COVID-19 pandemic, the car is likely to be known as the C40 in 2022.

Ferrari has taken a similar approach, naming its 2021 car as Project 673 while its 2022 car is known as Project 672.

Due to the majority of the 2020 vehicles being carried over under the revised tech regulations for this year, some teams have instead chosen to change the name of last year’s model, including Red Bull (RB16) and McLaren (MCL35M).

Alfa Romeo is kicking off the 2021 season with the aim of recovering from a difficult 2020, with the team only scoring eight points as drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi struggled to compete with the more forward midfield teams.

Räikkönen and Giovinazzi have been in the team since 2021 and are once again supported by test and reserve driver Robert Kubica.
