Alfa Romeo sets start date for 2021 F1 challenger – Motorsport Week

Qualifying is a disaster for Alfa Romeo - Motorsport Week

Alfa Romeo has confirmed the start date and location for its Formula 1 challenger 2021, making it the first team to do so.

Sauber Motorsport, which operates Alfa Romeo’s Formula 1 racing, announced that the new car called the C41 will be unveiled in Warsaw on February 22nd.

Warsaw is home to several of Alfa Romeo’s title partner Orlen’s main business operations.

Sauber, who has competed in Formula 1 since 1993, adopted the Alfa Romeo branding before the 2019 season.

The Italian car company confirmed last October that it would continue its partnership with Sauber until 2021.

Orlen came on as the title sponsor for 2020 along with the appointment of Robert Kubica as Alfa Romeo’s test and reserve driver.

Alfa Romeo has finished eighth in the constructors’ championship for the past three seasons.

It will also field 2007 world champion Kimi Räikkönen and Ferrari-related Antonio Giovinazzi as drivers for the third year in a row.

Formula 1 teams have limited changes to their cars for 2021 following a widespread agreement to keep the 2020 chassis for cost reasons.

Revised technical regulations will be introduced in the championship next year.

Several teams are expected to showcase their updated cars while preparing for pre-season testing.

The shortened three-day test is currently scheduled to take place in Bahrain from March 12-14, before the country’s scheduled season opener on March 28th.
