Alfa Romeo F1 Team will appeal a time penalty after the German GP

Alfa Romeo F1 team will appeal post-German GP time penalty

The drivers of the Swiss team dropped from positions 7 and 8 to positions 12 and 13 at Hockenheim after being sentenced to a 30-second time penalty for violating the Formula 1 clutch regulations.

The FIA commissioners decided that the clutches of the two cars worked in such a way that the drivers might have an advantage when restarting while standing wet after the warm-up laps behind the safety car.

At the time the sentence was imposed, Alfa Romeo team principal Frederic Vasseur claimed that the clutch situation was caused by something beyond the team’s control and that there was “evidence” that could reverse the verdict.

He said: “The situation arose during the laps we did behind the safety car before the standing start – we had a clutch malfunction that was out of our control and we will investigate further.

“We respect the FIA process and the work of the Stewards, but we will appeal this decision as we believe we have the reasons and evidence to have it lifted. We will be in touch with the FIA shortly about this . “

After the team appealed on Sunday evening after the race in Hockenheim, the team confirmed in the run-up to the Hungarian Grand Prix that it had now formally submitted papers to confirm that it wants to continue.

In a short statement on Twitter it says: “Alfa Romeo Racing has appealed against decisions 56 and 57 of the stewards of the 2019 German Grand Prix.”

A successful appeal for Alfa Romeo would rob Williams of his first point of the season after Robert Kubica on the 10 Valtteri Bottas would still stand at a healthy 39 points.
