Valtteri Bottas will drive for Alfa Romeo Racing in the 2022 season. After 5 successful years with the Mercedes AMG F1 Team, the Finn retired after the 2021 season. He will replace Kimi Raikkonen in the Alfa Romeo as the 2007 world champion decided to retire at the end of the 2021 season.

Alfa Romeo team boss Frédéric Vasseur said he was pleased that Bottas would drive for the Swiss team. Both have a good relationship as Vasseur was the team principal of ART when Bottas won his F2 championship.

As Motorsport.it reports, the Alfa Romeo team boss mentioned the importance of a strong bond between him and Bottas. He also hopes Valtteri will bring the experience needed to take this team forward.

“It is important to know each other well and to have full mutual trust. I’ve seen that with Charles in the past. When you work with a rider in the smaller categories, you get to know that person well and don’t have to spend a lot of time talking to them and understanding their expectations,” said Vasseur.

“When everything is perfect he can fly and has been faster than Lewis on some weekends. He did an incredible job in the latter part of last season and I think knowing that he already has a contract in his pocket and is confident that he’s part of a new project made him feel more relaxed on the track. I think that helped him a lot,” said the Alfa Romeo team boss about Bottas.

Bottas becomes team boss for the first time in his career. It is very likely that the Swiss team would languish at the bottom of the grid. So it would be up to Bottas to push the team forward and keep their morale high during difficult times.
