Alfa Romeo drives special livery for Monza F1 weekend

Alfa Romeo Racing will wear a one-off livery this weekend when their cars hit the Monza circuit for their home Grand Prix. The special paintwork is a reminder of how the team won its first Formula 1 title in 1950 on the now legendary Italian racetrack.

The paintwork was designed by Centro Stile Alfa Romeo – the brand’s in-house design office. The logos around the car and on the engine cover represent the 111-year history of the Alfa and also take up the colors of the Italian flag. The upper part of the engine cover is now colored green in ‘Quadrifoglio’.

The new color scheme is not limited to the car either. Drivers Antonio Giovinazzi and Robert Kubica (the latter representing Kimi Räikkönen) will wear new overalls that match the car.

Special and historical color schemes have become more common for Formula 1 teams in the recent past, with Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren all making similar choices in recent years.

Back at the museum in Arese, Alfistis can see an Alfa Romeo F1 show car. The museum offers streams of all sessions and the race itself on the big screen in the Giulia Hall. A virtual driver meeting and an exhibition of Formula 1 models are also planned.

It was a busy couple of weeks leading up to the Italian GP. At the Dutch Grand Prix weekend it was announced that their current driver Kimi Räikkönen will retire from the sport at the end of the season. Shortly afterwards it was announced that the Finn had been infected with Covid and would be forced to suspend the family doctor. Then, on Monday, it was announced that his successor would be Valtteri Bottas, who left Mercedes-AMG F1 and started a chain reaction of driver-music chairs.
