Red Bull cost cap discussions ‘on hold’ after death of Mateschitz

Red Bull has released a statement saying all cost cap discussions with the FIA ​​have been put “on hold” until further notice, following the sudden death of team owner Dietrich Mateschitz.

The statement reads: “Following the passing of Mr Mateschitz, all conversations with the FIA ​​around Cost Cap and next steps are on hold until further notice. The deadline for agreement has been extended and we expect talks to pick back up middle of the week.”

The team has been in a head-to-head battle with the FIA ​​over their minor breach of the $145 million cost cap, after their submission was found to have breached in four main areas.

Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner has been seen with FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem throughout the weekend, while also criticizing Zak Brown for his ‘cheating’ allegations.

The governing body believed to have made an offer to enter into an Accepted Breach Agreement, but Red Bull is still deciding whether it will accept or go to the Cost Cap Adjudication Panel.

In this scenario judges will evaluate the case and determine if any penalty should be applied, and the severity of it.

F1 will hold a tribute to Mateschitz before the national anthem in the run-up to the United States Grand Prix.
