Ricciardo twice finished third in the standings when previously at Red Bull, in 2014 and 2016. He also had short stints at Aston Martin and Renault before signing for McLaren.

And it seems Norris will miss him, having written a classy tribute to his now ex-teammate when his departure was confirmed: “What a ride @danielricciardo. From that moment in Monza, to the laughs we’ve had out of the car, it’s been a joy working with you these last two years. Whatever’s next I wish you all he best, let’s have a mega next few months.”
