Rosberg: F1 rules changes worked very well

Nico Rosberg, the 2016 Formula 1 Champion and former Mercedes driver, claimed that the new regulation the sport launched in 2022 worked very well.

The German, speaking in his official YouTube channel credited his former boss at Mercedes Ross Brawn, who, as F1’s Managing Director of Motorsports led the process of development and introduction of the new aero regulations based on ground effect aiming to help F1 cars race more closely without losing downforce.

Naturally Brawn has labeled the new rules a success, but so did many others, and now Rosberg has joined the group of people trumpeting the success of the new era of F1.

“For me, the year of F1 was so awesome. It was such a great season,” he said. “Even though one guy dominated so much, it didn’t really make it boring.

“It was just so interesting all the time, so exciting, so many things changing – it was great,” the son of 1982 F1 Champion Keke Rosberg added.

Brawn and his team did a great job

Giving credit to Brawn and his team the winner of 23 grands prix said: “I think the rule changes really worked very well, to make overtaking easier – we can confirm that. They’ve done a great job with that, led by Ross Brawn, so thank you Ross and team for the effort on that.

“The amount of overtakes [in 2022] to [2021], [there were] so many more, and that’s really just proof of how the new rules are working,” Rosberg maintained.

Rosberg joined the Mercedes F1 project in 2010 along with Michael Schumacher, right after the German automaker purchased Brawn GP from Ross Brawn at the end of the 2009 season, after the team secured both F1 Championships.

While Brawn made way for Toto Wolff and Niki Lauda at the team in 2013, and Schumacher went into retirement for the second and final time, Rosberg remained with the team and was joined by Lewis Hamilton.

Rosberg went on to win the 2016 F1 Drivers’ Championship and retired from the sport, mere days after clinching his only F1 Title.
