Formula One fans have fired back at Lewis Hamilton after the Mercedes star didn’t appear in a special Secret Santa clip. Drivers were asked to pull names out of a Santa hat to determine who to buy a present for in a fun event ahead of the final race of the 2022 season.
F1 released a one-minute teaser clip on Monday afternoon ahead of the full video being published on YouTube. Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris were among the top drivers to get involved.
Sergio Perez, Carlos Sainz and Fernando Alonso all appeared to enjoy the light-hearted fun as the trio laughed throughout as they picked the driver they needed to buy for. However, Hamilton was not included in the clip with fans hitting back at the Mercedes star for not getting involved.
Twitter user @dystainak said: “Why does Lewis never participate in these? Does he think he’s too good for it or something?”

@Willow__1 added: “Well we his fans aren’t even [bothered] but you are! Hamilton took part in F1’s Secret Santa back in 2017, receiving an elf costume and a plate for his dog from Sainz.
In exchange, he handed out a pipe and slippers to Felipe Massa, who was set to retire at the end of the season. In a hilarious turn of events this time around, Ferrari star Sainz picked his own name out of the hat in this year’s secret Santa.
He begged presenter Will Buxton to let him keep his name but was told the rules meant he had to swap, eventually getting Valtteri Bottas. Perez picked former Red Bull driver Alex Albon, claiming he would be buying “something for his hair”.
Alonso looked shocked when he randomly selected new team-mate Pierre Gasly, while Leclerc was handed title rival Verstappen.
