A Brentwood gamer and F1 enthusiast played his part in the winning side at a recent esports competition – with a tour of the Mercedes factory among the prizes.
While he did not record the fastest time on the night, Scott Tuffey, 31, spoke of his joy after competing in a virtual Silverstone racing challenge last week (December 8) at Battersea Power Station.
Organized by IWC, a Mercedes F1 sponsor, Scott secured his place by being one of the ten fastest drivers on racing platform iRacing.
On the night, the competitors were split into two teams, one coached by F1 star George Russell, the other by F1 esports pro series drivers’ champion Jarno Opmeer.
Two mystery racers, who turned out to be content creator Harry Pinero and motorsport presenter Emma Walsh, also took part.
Clocking up a time of one minute, 31,603 seconds, Scott managed to defy his expectation that he would be the slowest racer, coming 10th out of 12.
As part of the winning team under George Russell, he also walked away with a tour of the Mercedes F1 factory, an afternoon in their esports HQ, and free subscription to iRacing for one year.
Matt Emery, another competitor on the night, took top spot for the fastest lap, clocking in a time of one minute, 29,223 seconds, meaning he won a £6,900 IWC watch.

“What an experience the IWC event was,” said Scott after the event.
“The guys and girls who organized the event were so welcoming and helpful throughout the night. We received a warm welcome and some official Mercedes F1 merchandise.”
Pleased with his role in the winning team, Scott added: “The best part of the experience though was meeting some great people from the sim racing community, enjoying it together and bonding over our love for this hobby.”
