F1 22 Available on Free Play During Formula 1 US Grand Prix Weekend

Race fans who want to get an up-close look at the Circuit of the Americas can drive the course and race with the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix drivers during race weekend.

Virtually, anyway.

Codemasters and Electronic Arts Inc. (EA Sports) are offering a free-play weekend for the F1 22 sim racing game for PlayStation4 and PlayStation5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam). The free play begins on Oct. 20 and runs through Oct. 24 (Xbox trial ends on Oct. 23).

F1 22 lets gamers take on Haas F1’s Mick Schumacher on a virtual Circuit of the Americas.

Special price promotions for new players will be offered by platform retailers, with all in-game progress saved from the trial. Several US-inspired in-game features will be available for free and a special price promotion will also run during the weekend for those looking to purchase the game.

Think that COTA is too much of you? Game developers have called on a F1 veteran and McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo to share his top tips on how to get around the Austin circuit the fastest way possible. Ricciardo offers some technical knowledge, such as braking points, tough turns, passing and DRS zones.

“With the Circuit of the Americas just around the corner, we wanted to do something special and allow as many players as possible to experience the new era of Formula 1,” said Paul Jeal, senior director F1 Franchise at Codemasters, in a press release . “During this free weekend trial, anyone can experience the thrill of Formula 1 for a limited time and we couldn’t have asked for a better coach to show us around the circuit than Daniel Ricciardo.”
