Mercedes have endured a difficult start to the 2022 Formula 1 season having only accumulated 77 points from the first four races leaving them 47 points behind leading team Ferrari. Despite their struggles, Team Principal Toto Wolff is impressed with the “positive” relationship developing between the new driving partnership of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton.

Russell is in his first year as a full-time Mercedes driver and has settled brilliantly. He currently sits fourth in the drivers’ championship and is 21 points ahead of his seven-time world champion teammate, with Nico Rosberg believing that Hamilton “passionately hates losing” to his teammate.

The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix was particularly tough for Hamilton who finished outside the top 10 in P13 but Russell managed to fight his way up to P4 and rescue some points for Mercedes after a strenuous weekend. Speaking after the race, Wolff praised the way the two drivers were working together but admitted having regrets that Mercedes haven’t yet given them a car to fight for wins this season.

“I’m very impressed with how [George has] settled in, how professionally and analytically he helps to assess the situation,” he said. “The combination is one of the very few highlights I have at the moment on our journey – how well the two of them work together, with no friction; on the contrary, [they’re] very productive and positive for the team.”

Max Verstappen has ‘genuine’ respect for Charles Leclerc, claims Christian Horner

The two drivers have shared victories in the first four races of this season – with Ferrari’s Leclerc winning in Bahrain and Melbourne, and Verstappen securing maximum points in Saudi Arabia and Italy.

Despite the same number of race wins in 2022, Leclerc leads Verstappen by 27 points in the drivers’ standings due to the reigning world champion failing to finish in Bahrain and Australia.

But while the pair look set to face off for victories throughout 2022, Horner insists Verstappen has a good relationship with Leclerc.

Max Verstappen tipped to have the edge on Charles Leclerc at Miami Grand Prix

The Dutchman’s win was his second of the season – his first coming in Saudi Arabia. Leclerc has also won two races in Bahrain and Australia, but has been able to move clear of Verstappen due to the Red Bull driver failing to finish both of those races.

Yet despite Ferrari’s Leclerc leading the standings heading to Florida, Montoya feels Verstappen has the edge and believes Leclerc’s spin late on in the Emilia Romagna GP – which saw him drop from third to sixth – gives his rival the upper hand.

Speaking to VegasInsider, the seven-time Grand Prix winner said: “If I was a betting person, I would probably put my money on Max.”

McLaren take Miami by storm in bid to become America’s F1 team

Bruce McLaren was a Kiwi, born and raised in New Zealand. His eponymous Formula One team and high-technology supercar company are based in England.

And yet McLaren very much wants to be North America’s official team.

The crowd roared Wednesday night at the Opening Party for the Miami Grand Prix when the papaya orange — that’s the shade, don’t get it wrong — appeared on stage. In a city used to superstars and the super wealthy, the spectators seemed to be bouncing at the very sight of Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo.

Their bosses were there, too, but the inaugural Miami Grand Prix has been built around the star drivers and, wow, does McLaren have a crew. Norris was voted most popular among women in a fan vote and Ricciardo, the Australian who drinks champagne from his shoe after a win, has the biggest personality in the paddock and counts the United States among his favorite countries.

Lewis Hamilton reveals F1 ‘saved my life’ as Mercedes prepare for Miami GP

Hamilton, now 37, came from humble beginnings on a Stevenage council estate, with his father Anthony working multiple jobs to fund his son’s formative years in motor racing.

The British driver has since gone on to become the most decorated driver in F1 history, winning more races than anyone else and taking a record equaling seven world championships. He is also the grid’s sole black driver.

Hamilton teamed up with NFL star Tom Brady at a fundraising event for the city’s under-privileged children at Miami Beach Golf Club on Wednesday and discussed how F1 saved him.

McLaren boss insists ‘no rush’ over new contract for Daniel Ricciardo

Daniel Ricciardo’s future beyond next year is undecided, with McLaren CEO Zak Brown adamant there is “no rush” to secure the Australian to a long-term deal.

Ricciardo, who is tied down until the end of the 2023, has managed to improve on what was a disappointing debut season after switching from Renault in 2021.

The 32-year-old is currently 11th in the drivers’ championship, with 11 points, including a best finish of sixth in Melbourne.

But after four races, Ricciardo is still well behind teammate Lando Norris, who is sixth on 35 points, having extended his contract to the end of 2025.

But Brown admits McLaren will assess their options before committing to a similar deal for Ricciardo.

Alpine sign up W Series star to help find future female F1 prospects

Formula One team Alpine has recruited W Series contender Alice Powell as a talent identification and development mentor, with a specific focus on scouting young female talent.

Powell, who finished second in the female-only W Series last season, will work with emerging drivers and help integrate them into Alpine’s academy programs.

This is set to include mentoring fellow Briton Abbi Pulling, who joined one of Alpine’s affiliate programs last year.

“More and more opportunities for women within motorsport are emerging now, but budding drivers often lack guidance and experience in the early days of their career,” Powell said.

“The Alpine Academy provides a sense of credibility and has a defined place on the motorsport ladder.”

‘It’s been a lonely journey’: Lewis Hamilton opens up on F1’s diversity problem

Lewis Hamilton hopes that he can improve diversity in Formula 1 after describing being the only black driver on the grid as a “lonely journey”.

The seven-time world champion has formed The Hamilton Commission to improve the representation of black people in UK motorsport.

The organization has also set up “Mission44”, which strives to “support, champion and empower young people from underrepresented groups in the UK to succeed”.

Hamilton is the only black driver to have raced in F1.

Porsche and Audi to join Formula 1 but ‘don’t really need to’, Volkswagen chief admits

The chief executive of Volkswagen has said that the car manufacturer “does not need” Formula 1 despite confirming that Porsche and Audi will join the grid.

Both brands sit under the Volkswagen umbrella and are set to involve themselves in F1 from 2026.

Herbert Diess, who chairs the board of the Wolfsburg-based automotive giants, has suggested that while F1 is not a priority for his organization, they recognize the potential for growth as motorsport’s popularity surges.

The 63-year-old confirmed that both Audi and Porsche have begun to develop engines.

“We certainly have other priorities strategically,” Diess said at an event in Wolfsburg. “It’s not necessarily motorsport, but our cars have to be technically up to date, we have to be able to drive autonomously, we need the software capabilities, we need batteries for our cars. We have enough to do and we don’t really need to do Formula 1.”

F1 2022: The best pre-order deals on Playstation, Xbox and PC

The next installment in the official Formula 1 racing game series is on its way with a release date of 1 July on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox series X/S and PC.

Developed by Codemasters and now published by EA, F1 22 is the latest entry and will be based on the current season of the Formula 1 World Championship.

F1 21 made some changes to the franchise when it released last year. Notably, it introduced a new story mode titled “Braking Point” so there is a chance we might also see a similar campaign being introduced in this follow-up.

Now that a release date has been confirmed for F1 22, it’s a good time to check out some pre-order deals so you can get the copy that’s right for you at a reasonable price. If you have been struggling to get your hands on a PS5 or an Xbox series X but want to upgrade your last-gen copy once you make the switch, then the “Champions Edition” of the game will give you dual entitlement as well as additional contents.

To find out where to buy F1 22 and what the Champions Edition will include, read the article below.
